The new dual-control lever, refined with professional feedback, offers enhanced control and unparalleled ergonomics, including a raised hood tip and smoother, lighter leverage. The reach-adjustable mechanism means the distance between the handlebar and lever can be tailored to any hand size and riding style. Additionally, the brake range has been increased for greater control when braking.

The completely new hydraulic brake caliper has 10% more pad clearance than the mechanical 105 brake – this means less brake wear and less noise. Furthermore, bleeding the brakes is easier and requires less maintenance.

Reach Adjust
The brake lever is equipped with a reach adjustment. This allows the grip to be adapted to the size of the rider’s hand, their riding style, or personal preferences.

DCL – Dual Lever Control
DCL stands for Dual Lever Control. It combines braking and shifting functions, allowing for easy operation. The improved ergonomics are arguably even more important for maintaining this high standard than the additional gear ratios. The technology of the new shifters incorporates the stability of Shimano’s MTB technology and operates so precisely and smoothly that it’s possible to shift both front and rear derailleurs with just one finger. This is truly a highlight of Shimano’s Total Integration. To understand it, you simply have to experience it for yourself.

The dual-control shift/brake levers of DURA-ACE, ULTEGRA, and 105 have been optimized and now feature, for example, a weight-reduced pivot on the inside of the shifting mechanism and integrated shift cable routing for easier steering. The extremely compact and high-precision components work together to deliver unparalleled shifting speed.

ICE Technologies
Brake fade, which can occur in brake discs and pads when braking continuously on long descents, impairs braking performance. Shimano introduced ICE TECHNOLOGIES brake discs and ICE TECHNOLOGIES brake pads to create a cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake disc, with its 3-layer sandwich construction of stainless steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, offers improved heat dissipation. Additionally, the brake pads feature cooling fins. The disc design, in conjunction with the cooling fins, results in longer pad life, reduced brake noise, less brake fade, and a lower weight.

ONE WAY BLEEDING
ONE WAY BLEEDING was developed to quickly and easily prevent air from entering the hydraulic system. Shimano has optimized the brake fluid flow throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from becoming trapped. The one-way flow of the mineral oil, combined with the funnel for filling, allows for clean and trouble-free bleeding.
